So my first review is something dear to my childhood...
Transformers!
The movies weren't dear to my childhood, the cartoon was though. Just to unnecessarily clear that up. So, my friend and I went to watch this movie the other day, hearing mixed reviews about it... I personally did not enjoy it that much.
The story movie starts off with the first ever moon landing, and they find some alien shit that the government decides to cover up. Then, we see a damn nice pair of legs... then the movie progresses and shows us that it's our hero's, Sam Witwicky, girlfriend. Seems Sam is in a bit of a slump, and can't find a job. Luckily for him, his super hot girlfriend is supporting him. Then the story goes on about the Autobots fighting off Decpticons with some random twists here and there. Don't want to spoil too much for those who haven't watched it yet.
It wasn't great, and it wasn't terrible. It was just in between. You know... it was bearable. I felt the female lead was unnecessary. She was just a bait the whole time, and I didn't feel she contributed much. Well, other than being captured. A lot. This is really annoying, probably because I was a big fan of Megan Fox's character, Mikaela Banes. She was hot, fiery, and a well-grounded badass. I felt like she represented women in a funner, less commercial way.
Instead of Mikaela Banes, we got a woman who discouraged Sam at every turn. I mean, she was pretty to look at, but her character lacked a little (a lot!) of oomph. She's got a damn great body, too. Good for her.
Shia LaBoeuf's acting was great. His voice cracked when he was screaming for his girlfriend (who is so unmemorable that I actually forgot her name), which made me smile. I've liked him since Even Stevens.
So the plot was okay, a bit redundant, and mostly predictable. Come on... Steven. Surprise us more, yeah?
The one thing I immensely enjoyed was definitely the beginning with the retro scenes of the first moon landing. Then again, I pretty much bleed for retro shit. Oh yeah, I loved Bumblebee too! He's my favourite autobot in the Transformers movie. His friendship with Sam is so cute, it makes the corners of my mouth twitch slightly upwards. What's that? A smile? Cool.
I think this movie was a B- at best.
